What do you think about having an online classroom community? Do you think it will help the students become more comfortable participating in classroom discussions or will it have the opposite effect?

  1. I think it would be helpful on many different levels...first they would become more comfortable with a computer...second it's a good way to keep in touch...and third it may be a good introduction for younger students on how to write letters to others and check spelling and such :)

  2. I think it might help students who don't like speaking in front of people open up and show the rest of the class that they have great ideas. Which in turn could lead to other students asking their opinion in person. Often the shy kid is disregarded as un-opinionated or less intelligent.

  3. First they would have to become familiar enough with computers to blog comfortably. I am not there yet! Secon, Rico is on the right track. It would give the students who never say anything in class a place where they might be comfortable enoug to say something.

  4. I think an online classroom community would be beneficial in some cases, thus allowing students to communicate actively with eachoter and responding to other students comments and questions with out feeling anxious in front of a class. On the other hand online anything is something I dont find as tangible as a classroom conversation, and I feel like whatever I said wouldnt be as effective online as if I were to say it in person, but that may be the benefits to others. All in all i definately dont think an online classroom communitiy would be a bad idea, ultimately it would allow students to interact who may not typically interact in a classroom setting.
